Joe Dowdle Withdraws from "Survivor 18"
On last night's "Survivor: Tocantins" 26 year old real estate broker Joe Dowdle was forced to withdraw from the competition due to an infection in his knee. The episode began with Joe growing more concerned about his left knee, which was swollen and appeared to be infected. The tribes then met for a feast which signaled that the merge had arrived. The two tribes would now be living together at Timbira's old camp. During the feast the castaways came up with their new tribe name - Forza - which means strength in Portuguese. When the contestants arrived at camp Coach and Tyson wasted no time in approaching JT and Stephen about a possible alliance whose first target would be Brendan. Unsure of whether the cross tribe alliance with Sierra and Brendan was still intact, they agreed to team with Coach and Tyson. Later the contestants competed in the first individual Immunity Challenge which consisted of hanging onto a wooden pole for as long as you could. The castaways dropped one by one until only Debbie and Tyson remained. Ultimately, Tyson hung on longer and was awarded immunity. As the tribe left the challenge Joe stayed behind and was examined by the medical team. His infection was deemed too serious to continue, so he became the seventh contestant eliminated from the game. Now only nine people remain, who will go home next?
